Before his death, witnesses reportedly saw Liam Payne acting strange in his hotel lobby.

The One Direction star was found dead after falling from the third floor of his hotel onto a wooden deck in Argentina at 5 p.m. on Oct. 16. He was seen in the hotel lobby prior, according to TMZ, "acting erratically" and even reportedly smashed his laptop. Liam reportedly needed to be carried from the lobby to his hotel room.

In the past, the star was candid about his struggles with alcohol. In July 2023, he revealed that he was six month sober after spending about 100 days in rehab. "I was in bad shape up until that point," he confessed in a YouTube video.

Liam continued: "I watching this beautiful symphony, I was having a drink, and I thought, 'You know what, this isn't really serving me at all, I don't really need this right now.' It's the first time I've ever put a drink down and gone to someone else, 'You finish this, I don't need this right now.' And I haven't picked one up since, which has almost been six months, which I'm excited about."

The musician's career was launched on the The X-Factor UK where he was put together with Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Harry Styles to form the famous boyband One Direction. The group came together in 2010 and rose to unprecedented heights as they released five albums as a group before entering a "hiatus" in 2016.

Thereafter, all members of the band went on to launch their own solo careers, including Liam who released his single, Strip That Down, as his debut. He performed a variety of shows as a solo artist, but never embarked on his own full tour.

Leading up to his death, Liam was facing immense backlash after his ex-girlfriend, Maya Henry, revealed she would be lawyering up against him. Her lawyers told the DailyMail: "Maya Henry issued a cease and desist last week to Liam Payne following the emergence of new and concerning information. She has retained attorneys Marco Crawford and Daniel Cerna to represent her. At this time, that is her only comment on the matter."

According to Maya, Liam was persistently contacting her following their breakup. She said on TikTok: "Ever since we broke up he messages me, will blow up my phone, not only from his phone, it's always from different phone numbers too, so I never know where it's gonna come from. He'll create new iCloud accounts to message me - it's always a new damn iCloud account. Every time I see one pop up on my phone I'm like, 'here we f---ing go again.'

"Also, he will email me... not only me, but he'll blow up my mom's phone. Is this normal behavior to you?"
